Excursion to Fagnano and Escondido Lakes from Ushuaia

We’ll depart from Ushuaia, traveling along National Route No. 3 (part of the Pan-American Route) toward the northern region of Tierra del Fuego Island, in southern Patagonia. As we ascend through valleys covered in peat bogs, we’ll witness the unique orientation of the Fuegian Andes, which run west to east in this part of the continent, unlike the typical north-to-south direction.

Along the way, we’ll pass through the picturesque Carbajal, Tierra Mayor, and Las Cotorras valleys before reaching Garibaldi Pass (450 meters above sea level). Here, we’ll cross the Andes, stopping at a scenic viewpoint with breathtaking views of Escondido and Fagnano Lakes—an ideal spot for capturing unforgettable photos.

At the head of Fagnano Lake, we’ll pause briefly to admire its remote, untouched beauty. This stunning Patagonian landscape is one of the most remarkable in the region, offering a perfect moment to soak in the serenity of nature.

On our way back to Ushuaia, we’ll stop to enjoy a traditional Asado de Cordero Fueguino, a must-try dish for visitors to Patagonia. For those who prefer other options, a menu featuring pasta and international cuisine is available.
