Canoe the Beagle Channel, visit a penguin colony, and explore Isla Gable with a delicious lunch and guided hike.
This full-day adventure from Ushuaia combines canoeing on the Beagle Channel, wildlife watching, a boat ride to Martillo Island to see penguins, and a scenic hike on Isla Gable. Enjoy a gourmet lunch with Patagonian wine, explore historical sites, and immerse yourself in the serene landscapes of Tierra del Fuego.
Your day begins with hotel pick-up in Ushuaia between 8:00 and 8:30 am. The journey heads east along National Route 3 and scenic Route “J” until reaching the Lasiphashaj River. Here, you’ll receive a technical briefing and gear up for the canoe portion of the adventure. With boots, waterproof overpants, and life vests provided, you’ll paddle downstream toward the Beagle Channel.
As you navigate the coastal waters, keep an eye out for seabirds and possibly sea lions. The paddle ends at the historic Estancia Harberton, where you board a motorboat bound for Martillo Island. From the boat, observe the lively penguin colony at their breeding grounds.
The boat ride continues to Isla Gable, where you’ll disembark for a delicious lunch featuring Patagonian flavors, including fish in lemon butter, rustic potatoes, local appetizers, panna cotta, and red wine.
After lunch and coffee, enjoy a peaceful hike across the island, taking in traces of the Yámana culture and early settlers. The silence of the landscape—broken only by wind and birds—adds to the immersive experience.
After approximately two hours of hiking, you’ll return by zodiac to Puerto Harberton, where the bus awaits to take you back to Ushuaia, arriving around 6:30 pm.
